i posted my calendars on my etsy site, and they're getting some looks already. don't worry, there are more than the ones listed, i just have to get more up there. thanks for all your patience in this! they are selling for $28 + shipping. i'm pretty excited about the responses i'm getting! thanks etsy!

you can reserve your calendar!

i am taking reservations for my 2008 letterpressed calendar if you want.(email me at arugula.press@gmail.com if you're interested) they will be $28 + shipping, complete with 12 months and a cover, and it's a numbered edition of 70. each month is two- color, printed by hand, and are original illustrations/ work from the last year. i can't tell you how excited i am that this project has actually come to fruition. it had been an idea for so long, and to see it become something physically in my hands is the most thrilling and nerve-wracking thing i have done is so long. i just hope other people get as much joy out of it as i do. thanks again.

arugula press update

my etsy shop has been quite silent to date, because i am working on a project which i am very excited about- a special edition (numbered to 60 and signed) letterpressed calendar designed and printed by me! i am really looking forward to the outcome, i've been gathering the illustrations from my past year or so of sketches, and am almost done with the typesetting. then it's time for printing! my plan is to have them in my shop by november 17th. the price will be $25 + shipping. stay tuned for pictures!

p.s. for the holidays there will also be letterpressed gift tag sets, and some single cards.

new from Nikki McClure

so if you have not yet seen Nikki McClure's new book Collect Raindrops then you need to check it out soon! i first saw it today when i stepped into anthropologie (i admit, i love that overpriced store so much, although i have only purchased a couple things ever, their displays are worth the trip.) then stopped in at a local bookstore to check it out. i'll just say that once i found it, i looked for the closest seat and got lost in it. i may have been drooling and smiling at the same time- i apologize if anyone saw me in this state. her work always puts me in a better mood about life- along with reminding me that the simple things are the ones to cherish.

in this book, Nikki combines her lovely graphic cuts with handmade lettering and a sprinkle of letterpress. another great thing i found near this book was some large scale prints of selected works of hers- for $8! i'm definately getting one soon for our new apartment (whenever that will be).

apology and the big news

i just wanted to apologize for the lack of posting the last couple of weeks. it's been crazy in our house- i was basically asked to interview for my dream job in portland, or. and i did. i just heard on friday night that i got it! i'm going to be a production letterpress printer at Oblation Papers and Press! so we have spent the last couple of weeks figuring out plan a or b. so we are now trying to execute plan a. i will be working here starting in late june- check out their site.
so basically d and i are planning a move very soon. it'll be an adventure for sure.
there will be updates i'm sure.

p.s. i had been so apprehensive to even mention this job on here in fear of not getting it.

looking for a papermaker

so since i am jumping into this printing world, i need some good paper. does anyone have any recommendations? i am wanting some that is thicker, that can take an impression. preferably cotton? i am thinking of porridge papers on etsy, but wondering if anyone knows any local papermakers?
drop me a note if you do.

and while we are on the subject (once again) of letterpress,
here are a few of my favorite etsy sellers:
- moontree letterpress
-port2port press
-starparticle
-lizardpress

calling all letterpress fans

i realized that i haven't ever mentioned the one of the greatest resources for anyone interested in letterpress, or the history of it. it's briarpress.org and they are great- they have a classified section in which i found my pilot press for sale. it can become addictive- watch out!
